Dear Valued Member,

We hope this letter finds you well and successfully coping in this very difficult time caused by the COVID 19
virus pandemic. We deeply appreciate your understanding, patience and support as your Pittsburg ‘Y’
navigates these uncharted waters. Your ‘Y’ is committed to providing our members and the community the
finest health and wellness facility with fitness classes and programs for all age groups.

As you are aware, your ‘Y’ has been closed for almost 2 weeks and will remain closed thru the month of April.
It had been our hope, with CDC hygiene practices in effect, to keep the swimming pool and fitness center open
but for the health and safety of our members and the community and in compliance with the Governor’s
directive all facilities were closed. It is our desire to continue serve our members thru virtual fitness classes
and to keep you up-to-date on information concerning our future.

We are proud of our ability to provide to our community the youth sports programs, adult and senior fitness
activities. Even with the ‘Y’ closed, there are expenses that never go away. We have taken aggressive action
and have reduced these to the greatest degree possible; however, some bills cannot be avoided. To meet
these obligations and keeping in mind our membership and the community no longer has access to the facility,
fitness programs and youth activities, we are asking that you consider your monthly bank draft as a charitable
contribution. Please understand that we are aware this may not be possible for all our members. If you can’t
help, contact us by April 8 th and we will suspend your draft. You can reach us at 620-231-1100 or by email
mike.moore@pittsburgymca.com.

Your ‘Y’ membership always has been about more than access to a building. Your ‘Y’ membership is about
making connections and building relationships. It’s about ensuring everyone -no matter who they are or
where they come from- gets the support they need to meet their full potential. It’s about making your
contribution to a stronger community ‘Y’. And we need that contribution more than ever right now.
As always if you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me at 620-231-1100 or by email at
mike.moore@pittsburgymca.com

Thank you for your support, God Bless,

I wanted to send you a quick note to start the new week and let you know what’s coming.  I hope you are surviving this unprecedented situation and are staying healthy.  I urge you to take note of the warnings and information that is constantly going out for your protection and others.

In the meantime, you may not be here at the Y, but we are! We are working on ways to engage you and bring value to your membership as a member of the Pittsburg Family Y.  During this challenging time, we are continuing to work to provide you as a valued member whatever services and information we can.  If there is something that you would like to see let us know and we’ll do our best to provide it.

We will be sending out information on exercise, nutrition and other related topics during this temporary closing.  Stay tuned to your favorite media source. We are also working on alternative schedules for summer sports and camp. We will send this information out as soon as it is available.  We know not everyone uses the same medium to get their information so keep checking the one you like.

Thanks for your patronage!

Respectfully,

Mike Moore

Even though we are shutdown work continues.  We are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to conduct summer programs.  Planning for our summer camp (Adventure Camp) and baseball continues. We have been taking Spring Soccer applications for some time and continue to do so. The 2 skills days for soccer have been cancelled. April 7th was the intended start date for games but more than likely this will be pushed back at a minimum and there is a good chance we may have to cancel it all together.  We are working to keep schedules intact long as we can before we cancel activities.

Parents keep in touch with your respective directors in the areas of Dance, Gymnastics, Swim Team and Volleyball for updates in these areas. Updates on Fitness and Aquacise Classes will be posted as well.

We apologize for the suddenness of decisions, but this situation has been changing daily and, on some days, it changes from one hour to the next.  I encourage you to keep monitoring social media updates and feel free to call the Y, 620-231-1100, if you have questions.

Thanks for your patronage!

With Gratitude,

After careful consideration the decision has been made to temporarily close the Y at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18th through March 31st, at which time we will re-evaluate. All the governing bodies involved with COVID-19 have recommended closure for facilities such as ours. Y-USA, the CDC and the Governor's office, which issued an order today have encouraged gyms to close for the safety of the public. Closings in our region include Y's in Kansas City, Wichita, Salina, McPherson, Topeka and Hutchinson.

We understand that closing our facility will affect many of our members. Our full-time staff will still be working and available to answer questions via phone between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. This temporary closure, as well as cancellation of various services in and around our community, will have very real financial consequences for organizations like the Y that rely heavily on support of members, program participants and donors. As a non-profit, charitable organization, we ask for your patience and your continued Y membership and program enrollment for support during this time.

It was a difficult decision, but we must keep the welfare of our community as our top priority. Closing the Y will give our members and staff the best chance to be and remain healthy and will help assist with the community effort to keep the public safe and healthy. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will announce any updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

With Gratitude,

Mike Moore
